Application of Jet Aerators in Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Application of Jet Aerators in Municipal Wastewater Treatment

1. Project Overview

This is a small domestic wastewater treatment project located in Puding County, Guizhou Province. The flow rate and concentration of domestic wastewater vary by season. In summer, the flow is higher and the concentration is lower; in winter, the flow is lower and the concentration is higher. The design calculation used the summer flow and concentration.

The Puding County wastewater treatment plant project was constructed by Taikong Water Technology Engineering (Guiyang) Co., Ltd. In September 2009, Anshun Environmental Monitoring Station monitored the influent and effluent water quality of the plant. The monitoring report showed that all indicators met Class IA of GB 18918-2002, the Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants.

2. Jet Aerator Design and Selection Parameters

  1. Design treatment capacity: 6000m3/d
  2. Design influent quality and effluent standard
No. Parameter Influent (mg/L) Effluent (mg/L)
1 COD 300 ≤60
2 N-NH3 50 ≤15
3 Water temperature ℃ 20 —
  1. Aeration time: 24h
  2. Aeration tank type: two tanks, each with a diameter of 8m and a tank height of 8m, including 0.5m freeboard.
  3. MLSS: 3500mg/L

3. Jet Aerator Selection

Based on the design and selection parameters, together with the performance data of jet aerators and the customer's requirements, the jet aerators were selected as follows:

The system uses 48 sets of GW200 jet aerators. Each GW200 jet aerator is equipped with one N20 efficiency-enhancing nozzle. There are two aeration tanks, and each tank uses 24 sets of GW200 jet aerators.

4. Actual Influent and Effluent Quality

After the equipment was put into operation, the measured influent and effluent water quality was as follows:

No. Parameter Influent (mg/L) Effluent (mg/L)
1 COD 210 26.92
2 N-NH3 98.9 4.07
3 Total phosphorus 14.07 0.37
4 Water temperature ℃ 21.5 21.5

The actual influent and effluent data show a COD removal rate of 87.2%, an ammonia nitrogen removal rate of 95.9%, and a total phosphorus removal rate of 97.1%.

5. Advantages ofJet Aerators

  1. Strong oxygenation capacity, helping ensure reliable effluent quality;
  2. Simple installation and maintenance. The water pump and jet aerator are installed outside the tank, making pump inspection and maintenance convenient;
  3. jet aeration has low noise and low energy consumption;
  4. The piping system is simple, resistant to clogging, and easy to operate and manage.
