The mixing and dissolution process of carbon dioxide and water is a physical and chemical process in which CO₂ gas diffuses through the gas-liquid interface, partially undergoes a hydration reaction with water to form carbonic acid, and eventually forms a carbonic acid solution (i.e., carbonated water).
